iPhone 5 To Get 4 Inch Screen Upgrade

The iPhone 5 may be getting a 4 inch screen according to new rumours. Component suppliers told Digitimes of the design revelation which would see Apple ditch the 3.5 inch screen that graced its past iPhones in favour of a bigger display that could compete with the likes of the HTC Desire HD and Samsung Galaxy S2.
The sources added that production lines for the next-gen iPhone have already begun testing with a Digitimes reporter adding: “Apple is interested in expanding the screen size to 4 inches to support the tablet PC market as the vendor only has a 9.7 inch iPad in the market.”
“With Apple joining the 4 inch and larger market, 4 – 5.5 inch will become the major battlefield for smartphones and further change the industry dynamics for small to medium size panels.”
The iPhone 5 is rumoured to get a complete design overhaul and a bigger screen certainly fits the bill. However, it still remains whether the new device would have a Retina display like the iPhone 4 and all iOS apps would need to be re-programmed to fit the revised screen dimensions. Maybe that’s the small price Apple feels it needs to pay to stay on top of the game though.
The latest news follows rumours that Apple may be developing a ‘budget’ iPhone inspired by its iPod nano music player. Now we have the possibility of a smaller and bigger iPhone being in the works, June looks to be an interesting month for Apple indeed.
